"The most common cause of shoulder pain is
tension in the muscles that lift the shoulders and support the
neck."
Principal Causes
- Sitting too low because your armrests hit the desk edge or your
feet are unsupported when you set your chair at a comfortable
height to work
- Poor support
- Stress
- Reaching forward or to the side
- Working with the elbows out
- Driving
- Referred pain from the neck
 |
"Sitting too low can cause sustained
contraction of the shoulder ‘lifting’ muscles. This
causes reduced bloodflow, which in turn leads to more contraction,
and so on, until the muscles spasm and cause pain."
|
Other Causes
There are obviously many musculo skeletal
conditions that will cause shoulder pain, but some or all of the
above will certainly aggravate them
 |
"Working with your elbows close to
your side uses mainly the forearm and upper arm muscles. If you
reach forward or to the side to work unsupported or lift your
elbows, you add the muscles around the shoulder. This is extra, and
usually unnecessary, muscle work!"
