These are some of the common causes of shoulder
pain, and our recommended solutions.
Sitting too low
- Remove the armrests from your chair or use a chair with short,
height adjustable armrests, (
RH or
HAG H04 chairs). If using a corner desk, consider an
Corner Keyboard and look at
the
Moveon chair which has length adjustable armrests.
- Use a
footrest.
Poor support
- Reduce the muscle work in your shoulders by supporting your
elbows (
RH and
HAG H04 chairs) and wrists (
wrist rests) when not actually keying and mousing.
Poor head posture
- Can cause a whole range of problems, have a look at ‘
Solutions to ease Neck Pain’.
Stress and Tension
- Set, plan or negotiate realistic deadlines.
Reaching forward or to the side
- Work with your keyboard/mouse in a position that is as close as
comfortably possible.
- If you are right handed and rarely use the numeric keys,
consider a
keyboard without a numeric keypad,or with one to the
left, as this will enable you to bring your mouse closer.
- Move equipment that you use most close to you to reduce leaning
forward or to the side to reach it.
- Use a rollermouse station
Working with elbows out
- Working with your elbows close to your side uses mainly the
forearm and upper arm muscles, if you reach forward or to the side
to work unsupported or lift your elbows, you add the muscles around
the shoulder.
Driving
- Have a look at
In the Car.
