Quick Overview

The Penguin marks a major breakthrough in the battle to beat health problems created when computer users spend too much time handling a conventional mouse.

It sets new standards of protection against a range of upper limb conditions such as repetitive strain injury (RSI) and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) by enabling right and left hands to share the workload and avoiding exaggerated movements of the wrist joint that can increase pressure on the soft tissues in the carpal tunnel. Regular switching of hands throughout the day helps prevent static muscle strain (SMS) in the arm and shoulder - a major source of discomfort in mouse work.

Hoping for Healing Review by Ed
I've had two weeks of use without noticeable tendonitis improvement. I find the sensitivity too low which results in mouse lifts to move the pointer on the screen. Can anyone show me how to adjust the sensitivity?

Hi Ed, you can increase the DPI of the Penguin Mouse by pushing the DPI button on its base. There are 4 different DPI settings [400, 600, 800 or 1200 DPI]. You can find out more information on this in the User Guide - you can find it here:

Fantastic! Review by R.Williams
I'd definitely recommend the Penguin Ambidextrous Vertical mouse.
It took a little while to get used to it after using standard mice all of my life but once I got the hang of it, it was great.

Takes some getting used to but no more wrist pain Review by AlexHeylin
Won't suit everyone, but even using my bad wrist I found pain very much reduced / eliminated. Plus it's easy to swap hands and the buttons and scroll wheel make sense and work well with either hand. Definitely worth a trial! (Posted on 18/09/2014)
Excellent product to cure repetetive Strain Review by Sue Willington
I have found this product, to cure very painful repetetive strain in the hand, superb....within a week all pain had gone, and has not returned after using the mouse for the last 5 months.
It's easy to use and get used to.
The left mouse click button has failed but I am finding the return and replace process very straightforward
Great product and service Posturite, am recommending to our Occupation Health dept

Excellent ergonomic device Review by James
The Penguin is great. I was able almost instantly to have the same level of accuracy and control that I have with a traditional mouse, but with no hint of pain even after long sessions.

Only two things to mention. The first is very minor: every time you turn on your computer you have to press the DPI button on the Penguin to select the desired level. Would be nice if it could remember it.

Secondly I want to address something that I've seen mentioned in reviews on other websites - that the buttons are cheap, weak or will wear out. Both buttons do have quiet, cushioned clicks, and in the case of the top, "left-click" button, quite a bit of travel. To be honest they do feel a little like they might not last, but after a few weeks of use I've developed confidence that it is just that the design is "soft-click" and they're fine. They just feel significantly different to the solid click you may be used to.

Very happy with my purchase, thank you.

Mixed - not for every task Review by Busybee
Firstly, I want to thank Posturite for the opportunity to test the Penguin which I recommend to everyone looking for an ergonomic mouse. Secondly, I want to emphasize that a mouse, and particularly an ergonomic mouse, does not only need to fit the size of hands but also the type or work mostly done with it. The Penguin is available in three different sizes which is brilliant. When my husband fitted his much larger hands around the Penguin, this advantage became very obvious. It is the type of work which makes this type of mouse unsuitable for me. Unfortunately, I have to return it for this reason.
A normal mouse is mostly operated with the hand and fingers allowing quick and precise selections. The Penguin is mostly operated (moved) with the arm which makes this precision quite difficult. Interestingly, reviews for similar types of ergonomic mice (joystick types) stress this same issue. I do a lot of desktop publishing and image editing. Even after three days, I get very frustrated with the fine selection tasks. At the end of the day, I ended up with soreness in my neck/ shoulders. Subsequently, I would recommend the Penguin for people who mostly do text-processing, software development and similar tasks.
In addition to this main issue, there are others you should be aware of: the mouse buttons are quite stiff. I find that when pressing the buttons, I move the mouse. Also, the mouse has a wide bottom for resting your hands which means, it does require a lot more space than a normal mouse. Further, the mouse needs a lot more space as the movements are much (!) more extensive than a normal mouse. To explain the latter point: at the speed set for my normal mouse, I quickly run out of desk space to move the cursor from the top of my screen window to the bottom (very frustrating). I reduced this problem by increasing the mouse speed to fastest (and setting the dpi to highest).
Finally, I did notice that my wrist was less sore at the end of the day. However, even if I manage to finally achieve the same selection precision as with a normal mouse, I will probably end up with a shoulder/ neck problem. For the main computer tasks I perform, I will have to find an ergonomic mouse rather than a stick.

Wrist Pain now Gone !!!!! Review by Cathy
Arrived quickly and soon got the hang of it easily. Wrist pain disappeared and only returns when I use the other mouse at home. Will purchase a Penguin for home too, it makes such a difference with my bendy keyboard, no more RSI issues. Even the IT guy at work can use it easily when I have issues with my PC. Excellent Review by Big Hands
Very comfortable. Used it for only 4 hours at the moment and it feels totally natural. Adjusted DPI to max setting and can now flick the cursor over both screens with small movements.

Smooth effortless control. The bird beats the mouse hands down!

Only negative I can think of is no "forwards/Backwards" button for browsing pages.

No more pain. Excellent mouse! Review by Scotts
I am on the computer 40hrs/week minimum. The pain in my right hand began to subside the day I began using the Penguin. After 1 week the pain and tenderness were gone. Aside from the ergonomic design, the Penguin is an excellent mouse. I had no problems switching to it. it took me less than a day to feel comfortable with it. Im glad it comes in different sizes as I have large hands and this mouse fits me very well. Although the mouse is straight up vertical it's design allows for a relaxed grasp both vertically and with my hand turned towards the mouse which I really like because I find it more comfortable to change my hand position throughout the day. Really Pleased Review by Mrs O
Got one on the advice of my Chiropractor to relieve RSI symptoms and shoulder pain. Really pleased! Both symptoms have disappeared. The mouse took a couple of hours to get used to but now I don't even think about it. Really comfortable to use. Can't recommend it enough. (Posted on 25/02/2014)
