The Mouse Celebrates its 40th Anniversary

Yesterday the mouse was 40 years old.

On 9 December 1968 Douglas Engelbart first used one at the Stanford Research Institute in California to demonstrate new methods of interacting with computers.

Of course, the product has come a long way since its inception; originally it was designed with wheels mounted on the underside of a wooden block. Today the design is still being honed, with ergonomics, the environment and economics among the factors now crucial in design and production.

BBC have written a fantastic article to mark the birthday of one of the most used products in the modern world. Their feature includes the history of the mouse and a video of the first ever mouse demo. See the full article here.

MultiRite gets a smaller twin

The fast-growing trend for people to use shorter keyboards has prompted Posturite (UK) Ltd to produce a ‘mini’ version of its popular two-in-one document holder and writing slope.

As with its larger twin, the Mini MultiRite helps to reduce the head, neck and eye movements that cause many of the day’s aches and pains for desk-based workers. People can read, write or type without having to risk awkward twists or turns.

It also allows maximum use to be made of desktop workspace and is easily adjustable to the right height and angle for the individual.

The Mini MultiRite is a further development of the original writing slope with which MD Ian Fletcher-Price launched Posturite 16 years ago. The company is now the UK market leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of posture-improving solutions for office and home workers.
