Office Environments faced a race against time after winning a £26,000 contract to completely refit a flagship Travel Information Centre in Sheffield.
The office is an important public interface for the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and it was vital that it was closed for as little time as possible.
Work started at 6pm on a Friday and went on day and night throughout the weekend. Despite uncovering unexpected problems during the rip-out phase, the refit was completed by 2pm on the Sunday.
Office Environments’ imaginative design also meant that the new-look office could accommodate two additional members of staff – five instead of three – behind the busy information desk.
A delighted Peter Cooper of the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive commented: “Office Environments has been outstanding, not only through the tender process but also throughout the design, installation and after-service. The communication, partnership and co-operation shown from all their staff has been remarked on as being exemplary by all our people who came into contact with them.
“It was also very pleasing that they understood the time constraints we were working towards, and not only met their obligations but assisted other contracted services by working around their demands to accommodate our requirements. They also project-managed the works from start to finish, showing confidence and, above all else, full commitment to producing a complete finish according to the specification and detail requested.
“There was also a requirement to alter some of the design layout at short notice which Office Environments accepted and produced excellent designs well in advance for our approval. Overall the service offered by Office Environments has been outstanding and I would not hesitate recommending them for similar works.”
Office Environments project manager Julian Millar, who spent most of the weekend on site, snatching just two hours sleep on the Saturday night, added: “I think we surprised a few people not only by completing the work well in time for the office to reopen first thing Monday morning, but also by providing additional space to allow extra staff to be accommodated at the busy hub.
“Considering the obstacles that we had to overcome, which only came to light when all the old fittings were stripped out, our people did a fantastic job to meet the timescales we had agreed.”
