Drive home the importance of not using phones behind the wheel

It can be tempting to take a quick phone call from a client, ping off a one-word email, or redirect your phone's sat nav while lost on the way to a meeting. But all of these things are not only dangerous but illegal, and in March 2017 the penalties for being caught doing anything on your phone doubled.

Are you ready for the driving law change?

As an employer, it is your legal duty under the Health and Safety Act 1974 to make sure staff understand the colossal risk involved with using a phone while driving for work.

Official figures show that phones pose the biggest accident risk to drivers, and are the biggest cause of road fatalities.

Anyone found by police using their phones at the wheel will now have six points docked from their license and a £200 fine. New drivers (those who have been driving less than two years) will lose their license.

As it stands, you are only allowed to use a phone while driving if you have a fully set up hands-free device in your car.

Our Driver Safety e-learning course raises awareness of all the risks people face when driving for work. This awareness not only saves lives, it also ensures you are fulfilling your legal requirements as an employer.

We have now updated the course to reflect the change in law. If you would like to roll out the driving course again (we strongly recommend you do), then please contact support@workrite.co.uk with your requirements and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
