Service spotlight: behind the scenes with Training and Events

This month we're shining the service spotlight on our Training and Events department, who are responsible for organising events and training for thousands of people each year.

A great deal of hard work and organisation goes on behind the scenes to make sure our country-wide Agile Working Events run smoothly for the hundreds of people who attend them. Adele Carvil and her team handle everything from sourcing iconic venues, organising healthy refreshments and securing top speakers, to signing attendees in, handing out goody bags and organising the transportation of ergonomic equipment for our exhibitions.

They also organise the training of over 4,000 people each year all over the country, managing venues, trainers and training equipment to deliver the high level of health and safety training we're known for. Here we chat to Training and Events Manager Adele to find out more about what goes on behind the scenes in her role.

What does your job involve?

My team is responsible for booking health and safety courses for our clients, making sure our trainers and equipment arrive on time and supplying our clients with the training and certification they need. We support everyone involved throughout this process, being on call to answer questions and ironing out any logistical issues.

Tell us about your team

We're a small but perfectly formed team of five, working over office and warehouse environments primarily at our head office in Berwick. If you add my team's length of service at Posturite together, we've worked here for 56 years!

What's one thing you love about your job?

I love logistics. Ensuring all the different elements come together at the right place and time is my idea of satisfaction!

What's one thing you find challenging?

I strongly believe training is fundamental both to an employee's wellbeing and an organisation's culture, so it can be frustrating when training is discussed in the context of ticking a box.

How many training courses do you put on a year?

We run around 600 courses a year, training approximately 4,000 people on face-to-face training courses.

Why should clients choose Posturite for their training?

So many reasons, starting with how reasonable our prices are compared with competitors. We have a tiered pricing scheme that rewards loyalty, which our clients seem to really like, and we have our special earlybird offer for drop-in DSE courses.

Then there's the course content itself, which is developed by experts in-line with the highest industry standards. Our clients are always commenting on how engaging, interesting and supportive they find our trainers to be. Our trainers are a huge asset to us - they really bring the courses to life with their own expertise, which I think gives context and depth to the content and ultimately makes it more memorable.

In short, people actually enjoy training with us. It's not seen as a chore, or a slog. It's all about developing skills professionally but also personally too.

What makes Posturite so great?

We have a great office environment and a positive culture at Posturite. People genuinely care about their jobs. The company is forward thinking when it comes to new working behaviours, and is constantly striving to improve processes and procedures for both clients and staff. Plus the socials are a lot of fun!

Can our clients expect anything exciting in 2020?

We're looking to relaunch our IOSH course offering, as well as a suite of bitesize courses for those clients who want some training for all staff but may not have as much time or budget available to them. All in all it's shaping up to be an exciting year ahead!
