Shirley celebrates her 80th birthday with a charity sky dive

Shirley PriceFletch’s mum is at it again! Shirley Price – or ‘Shirl the Whirl’ as she is affectionately known – mother of our CEO Ian Fletcher-Price, is planning to mark her 80th birthday in September by leaping out of an aeroplane.

Shirley has made something of a habit of celebrating significant birthdays with high-flying stunts.

At 70 she went parasailing. At 75 she did a wingwalk. And now she’s seeing in her 80th year by doing a sky dive.

She’ll take the plunge at Headcorn (Lashenden) Airfield, Kent, on 3rd September when she will jump from a plane flying at 12,000 feet.

Shirley is doing it to raise much needed funds for ESAB (the East Sussex Association of Blind and Partially Sighted People) where she is Chairman of the recently-formed Friends of ESAB group and Treasurer of the Tuesday Club which organises regular outings and social events for ESAB members.

She will be joined in her sky dive by two of the 1,700 blind and partially sighted people who ESAB currently support – 40-year-old Paul Millross and David Howell, 59 – and  Shirley is hoping that their joint efforts will bring in at least £10,000.

All contributions to this worthy cause, no matter how small, will be gratefully received. Sponsorship and donations can be made online at or by cheque, made payable to FESAB, and sent to Shirley Price at Garth Cottage, Bodle Street Green, Hailsham, East Sussex BN27 4UA.
