Level 3 DSE Workstation Assessment (for an Identified Concern)
Undertaken by either a medical professional with in-depth knowledge of musculoskeletal issues and ergonomics training, or a qualified Ergonomist with specialist knowledge in workstation issues. This level of assessment would be requested for more severe cases requiring more detail and addressing any stated workstation questions. The resulting report will describe the workstation and identify any changes that could be made to assist the user at their workstation.
No physical examination would be undertaken, however measurements will be taken and photographs to accompany the report will be taken with permission of the end-user.
What is a Level 3 DSE Workstation Assessment (for an Identified Concern)?
This assessment focuses on identified concerns so that changes and recommendations can be made to help the user manage more complicated musculoskeletal DSE workstation issues.
With this assessment we review and aim to improve the workstation set-up to help alleviate musculoskeletal discomfort and issues reported, and recommend any further changes that may improve the comfort of the workstation for the person concerned.
This assessment will collect specific information about the user’s reported issues, including observation, measurements and photographs undertaken at a single DSE workstation.
Who is the Level 3 DSE Workstation Assessment (for an Identified Concern) for?
This level of assessment aims to deal with more complicated cases requiring deeper knowledge and experience to address the reported musculoskeletal problems affecting DSE work. The assessment may be requested independently or recommended following a Level 1 or 2 assessment.
What happens in a Level 3 DSE Workstation Assessment (for an identified concern)?
The assessment will be carried out by a health professional with in-depth knowledge of musculo-skeletal issues and ergonomics training, or an ergonomist with specialist knowledge in workstation issues. Users will be observed working at the DSE workstation and their issues discussed to try to identify possible influencing factors. A series of observations will be made, during which measurements and photographs will be taken to facilitate a clearer report.
Following the assessment, a clear report will be written which will focus on the reason for the assessment, highlight any relevant areas of concern, any changes made and provide recommendations (where relevant) with justifications.
As this assessment and report is likely to contain personal and medical information, the user will need to provide consent and they will be given the option to see the report before it is sent to the employer. Alternatively, they will receive a copy at the same time, so the appropriate consent of the end user will be required prior to the assessment being undertaken.
