Cardiac arrest can happen at any time, anywhere - which is why it’s so important to have an automated external defibrillator (AED) ready to use at your workplace. A person’s chance of survival drops by 10% with each minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation.

The Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an AED course is designed to give employees the skills and confidence to use your business’s AED unit promptly and confidently. They’ll also gain vital basic life support skills, including casualty management and CPR. When every second counts, having trained staff on-hand to respond rapidly could make all the difference.

What to expect

The Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an AED (QA Level 2 Award) is a half-day course (4 hours) that demonstrates the skills to administer safe, prompt and effective basic life support, and safe use of an AED, in emergency situations.

Attendees can expect to spend some time listening and some time participating in group and individual work with first aid equipment like AED training units and CPR dummies. The AED training units are complete replicas of the units they’d be using in a real-life situation.

We'll cover...

  • Chain of survival
  • Assessing an incident
  • Casualty assessment
  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • Recovery position
  • CPR
  • AED safety considerations
    • Using an AED
    • Combining AED use with CPR
