The aim of emergency paediatric first aid is to help preserve and potentially save the life of an infant or child. On our one-day Qualsafe training course you will learn the key specialist skills and techniques needed to respond quickly, effectively and with confidence to a range of emergency situations involving babies or children.

By completing our one-day QA Level 3 Award, you’ll gain a recognised qualification and vital child-specific first aid skills that could significantly improve the chances of survival in an emergency situation. While we do our best to create safe environments at work, in schools and at home, emergencies do happen, and emergency paediatric first aid training is about gaining the skills to react appropriately with confidence.

Our emergency paediatric first aid course is ideal for anyone who works with or looks after children.

What to expect

This is a one-day course with an experienced Posturite trainer specialising in paediatric first aid. Throughout the day you will learn about a variety of common emergency situations, including wounds, choking, seizures and cardiac arrest. It won’t all be theory — you’ll also have a chance to get hands-on with our training equipment so the trainer can help you achieve the right techniques. You will conclude the course with a written multiple-choice assessment and, having passed, be issued with a QA Level 3 qualification.

Please note: This qualification does not fulfil OFSTED's first aid requirement for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide). For this, you will need to complete our Paediatric First Aid course.

We'll cover...

  • Introduction
  • Roles and responsibilities of paediatric first aider
  • Incident and casualty management
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
  • Unconscious casualty
  • Management of a seizure
  • Choking
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Shock
  • Wound packing and tourniquets
  • Multiple choice written assessment
