What we did

As part of a long-term programme of refurbishment of its common learning spaces, the University of Southampton wanted to replace the accumulated mismatched seating with a single style of chair. But what to choose? Rather than impose a solution, the university allowed the students to decide.

Product profile

HÅG Conventio Wing Chair

Different makes and styles of seating were brought in for trial, at the end of which the students voted in favour of the HÅG Conventio Wing - a dynamic conference chair with a built-in tilt mechanism. It has been specially designed to give meetings and conferences greater movement and variation. The design of its beautiful wing-shaped back ensures it is comfortable to sit on. It will also withstand rough treatment and is easy to maintain.

The chairs we supplied are now the university’s standard chairs of choice for all refurbished and newly-built common learning spaces. The university has received terrific feedback from the students who apparently now hate going to other teaching rooms that don’t have the HÅG Wing chairs. They would, we’re told, drag the chairs around from one class to another when they could get away with it.
